Surfing

surfingDrawing on it's coastal location, Wanganui offers a range of beaches and conditions to challenge surf enthusiasts of all abilities - many within minutes of the city centre.

In a southerly swell, head to the Whanganui River mouth (13 kms south of Wanganui) or cross the river to get to South Beach.

Castlecliff Beach, North of the river mouth, offers three main beach breaks which perform well at high tide when a sea is running.  Slightly further afield, are Kai-Iwi Beach (15 mins from Wanganui) and Waitotara, also known as 'The Point' (32 kms north of Wanganui) which can turn on fantastic left and right-hand reef breaks, when conditions are right.
